Environmental Education

The Pine Hollow Arboretum currently provides many science-oriented educational opportunities for the community. The unique forest environment of trees, shrubs, and plants found at Pine Hollow Arboretum presents a novel “living laboratory” to observe many ecological concepts at work. As we move forward, we hope to be the host site of research studies that contribute relevant information to the fields of horticulture, plant conservation, climate studies, forestry, and ecology.

Current science-oriented programs at Pine Hollow include:

  • Hands-on Environmental Education for Elementary Students (Bethlehem & Albany City School Districts)
  • Environmental Leadership Training for High School Students
  • Ash Tree Survival Initiative
  • Outreach Workshops on Emerging and Established Invasive Species
  • Hybrid Oak Plantings Monitored by Cornell University
  • 10 Minute- Field Trips. Check some out here!

If you are an educator, summer camp or educational institution looking for a field trip location, please email pinehollowarb@gmail.com for more information.

Price varies on the institution's budget. Pine Hollow will try to cover the full cost of the field trip if we can. Please don't hesitate to reach out with field trip budget questions.

Ten- Minute Field Trips

In 2020, the Pine Hollow Arboretum received grant money through the Bender Scientific Fund through the Community Foundation of the Greater Capital Region to create a set to Ten-Minute Field Trips. The purpose of this grant was to produce "Ten Minute Field Trips" which are pre-recorded video designed to teach students about trees, plants, wildlife and ecosystems that can be found at their school or in their community.
